It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday! What are you reading? is a weekly meme hosted by The Book Date. A place for bloggers to gather to discuss what books they read and reviewed last week, what books they are currently reading and what books they are planning to read. This is a great way for me to plan my reading week, and get a sneak peek at what others are reading.

What I read last week:

Last week was a Nicholas Sparks kind of week. Dear John was sitting in my list on Netflix and I figured why not finally read the book that has been sitting on my shelf for 4 years. After that I found myself in the mood for more, so I picked up another one of his books that has been sitting on my shelf just as long.

#FirstLinesFriday: 4.24.2020

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines? Follow the rules below:

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
  • Finally… reveal the book!

“After three days of tramping across endless lava fields, Ronan quickened his steps at the sight of the forest.”

Sea of Shadows
By Kelley Armstrong

Blurb:
In the Forest of the Dead, where the empire’s worst criminals are exiled, twin sisters Moria and Ashyn are charged with a dangerous task. For they are the Keeper and the Seeker, and each year they must quiet the enraged souls of the damned.

Only this year, the souls will not be quieted.

Ambushed and separated by an ancient evil, the sisters’ journey to find each other sends them far from the only home they’ve ever known. Accompanied by a stubborn imperial guard and a dashing condemned thief, the girls cross a once-empty wasteland, now filled with reawakened monsters of legend, as they travel to warn the emperor. But a terrible secret awaits them at court—one that will alter the balance of their world forever.

My sister has been telling my to read this book for a while now and I have always put it aside for something different, but after re-read the premise I do believe this book is getting moved to the top of my TBR pile. Right after I finish my "Forgotten TBR pile." LOL!

Can’t Wait Wednesday: 4.22.2020

Can't-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted here, at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we're excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they're books that have yet to be released. It's based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are so many books that I have added to my TBR release that sometimes it is a struggle to choose just one for Can’t Wait Wednesdays. Most of the novels I have added to my list fall under the fantasy genre, a genre I have really come to love over the last couple of years and
this weeks book is no different.
Seasons of the Storm
By Elle Cosimano
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy
Format: Hardcover, ebook, audiobook
Length: 480 pages
Publication Date: June 23, 2020 by HarperCollins Publishers
Blurb:
One cold, crisp night, Jack Sommers was faced with a choice—live forever according to the ancient, magical rules of Gaia, or die.
Jack chose to live, and in exchange, he became a Winter—an immortal physical embodiment of the season on Earth. Every year, he must hunt the Season who comes before him. Summer kills Spring. Autumn kills Summer. Winter kills Autumn. And Spring kills Winter.
Jack and Fleur, a Winter and a Spring, fall for each other against all odds. To be together, they’ll have to escape the cycle that’s been forcing them apart. But their creator won’t let them go without a fight.
Top Ten Tuesday ~ Titles That Would Make Good Band Names
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Each Tuesday Jana assigns a new topic...create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic - putting your own spin on it if you want.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is my first Top Ten Tuesday in quite a while. These past few weeks have been stressful at work and all I have wanted to do lately is relax with a good book or Netflix show when I am home. But this weeks Top Ten Tuesday sounded like a lot of fun I just couldn’t pass it up.

Bare Bones: I'm Not Lonely if You're Reading this Book
By Bobby Bones

Bare Bones has been sitting on my shelf for a while now, it's one of those biographies I mentioned Wednesday.
I listen to Bobby Bones almost every morning on my way to work and I am not one for morning radio shows, when I am driving into work I often prefer listen to music, but Bobby Bones is the one and only radio show I will listen to. I enjoy the comradery among the cast and who open they are about their lives. So when Bobby Bones mentioned he was releasing a biography I was excited and couldn't wait to read it, however over time it has slowly been pushed to the bottom of my TBR. Hopefully now I can actually crack open the cover!

Can't Wait Wednesday: 4.15.2020

Can't-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted here, at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we're excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they're books that have yet to be released. It's based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Over the years I have added several biographies to my TBR list, however over time they always seem to get forgotten and pushed deeper into my list, but this is one biography I have no doubt I will read. For years now, my sister and I have been huge fans of Nikki and Brie Bella, they are amazing inspirations for young women everywhere and that's why I can't wait to read their book, a biography depicting their struggles and successes. Bella Army all the way!!
Incomparable
By: Brie & Nikki Bella
Genre: Biography
Format: Hardcover, ebook, audiobook
Length: 256 pages
Publication Date: May 5, 2020 by Simon and Schuster
Blurb:
A raw, honest, and revealing co-memoir by Brie and Nikki Bella: twin sisters, WWE Hall of Fame inductees, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and stars of the hit E! shows Total Bellas and Total Divas.
As twins, the Bellas have always competed. Legend has it that Nikki drop-kicked Brie in the womb so that she could make her grand entrance first. But the rest of the world often treated them as identical and even interchangeable, so they decided to do something about it.
In WWE, the Bellas accomplished so much together: bringing in young girls and women while building the Bella Army, helping the transition of female performers from Divas to Superstars, starring in Total Divas and Total Bellas, and founding companies like Birdiebee, Nicole + Brizee Beauty, and Bonita Bonita Wine.
Though their early journey began with loss, abuse, and plenty of rough times, these challenges “shined the diamond.” They resolved to be survivors and the heroes of their own stories, and to take control and responsibility for their lives. Eventually, they would come to show girls everywhere that they can do anything.
The Bellas may be identical twins—but as individuals, they have proven themselves Incomparable.
What I read last week:
My last read has left me with a bit of a book-hangover. JLA is one of my favorite authors and every one of her books leaves me struggling to find interest in my next read, unless it is one of hers of course. :) However, this last book has left me reeling and I can't wait for book two to be released. I am eager to see what is in store for these characters!! Click here to read me review for From Blood and Ash.
