Review: Dead Girls Don't Lie by Jennifer Shaw Wolf

Dead Girls Don't Lie
By: Jennifer Shaw Wolf

Synopsis From Goodreads:

Rachel died at two a.m . . . Three hours after Skyler kissed me for the first time. Forty-five minutes after she sent me her last text.

Jaycee and Rachel were best friends. But that was before. . .before that terrible night at the old house. Before Rachel shut Jaycee out. Before Jaycee chose Skyler over Rachel. Then Rachel is found dead. The police blame a growing gang problem in their small town, but Jaycee is sure it has to do with that night at the old house. Rachel’s text is the first clue—starting Jaycee on a search that leads to a shocking secret. Rachel’s death was no random crime, and Jaycee must figure out who to trust before she can expose the truth.

In the follow-up to her powerful debut, Jennifer Shaw Wolf keeps readers on their toes in another dark, romantic story of murder and secrets.

My Review:

Rating:

This book has been sitting on my TBR pile for years, my sister and I picked it up at a book fair back when she was in middle school. The cover drew me in but the book summary is what sealed the deal.

Dead Girls Don't Lie follows a young girl, Jaycee as she tries to uncover the truth behind her best friend's death.

Jaycee and Rachel were the best of friends up until 6 months ago when everything changed. A boy got in the middle of their friendship and Rachel went from good girl to troubled in the blink of an eye. What made her change so drastically?

As Jaycee begins to unlock clues left by Rachel, she finds that her best friend had a big connection to the boy murdered in the "old house" that summer. How are Manny and Rachel connected? And who wanted Rachel dead? Could it be a gang member like the cops say or are the cops traveling down the wrong path?

As Jaycee is leading her own investigation along side Eduardo, Rachel's dear friend, she falls in love with one of the Cross boys. Skyler Cross. He seems nice enough but those Cross boys are strange and they seem intent on keeping Jaycee from the truth. What are they hiding? How deep does this conspiracy go?

Who can Jaycee truly trust? At every turn she runs into secrets and lies from those she believes to be the good guys.

I must say for a middle grade/teen novel this book was excellent! I was hooked from page one as the suspense is perfectly written to keep you on the edge of your seat. Jennifer Shaw Wolf is an amazing author, she spins together a story so engrossing you don't want to set it down, even to the very last page. This is one novel I would highly recommend, it is definitely worth the read.
