Review: The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling

The Tales of Beedle the Bard
By: J.K. Rowling

Length: 109 pages
Genre: Young Adult, Magical Short Stories

Synopsis From Goodreads:

The Tales of Beedle the Bard, a Wizarding classic, first came to Muggle readers’ attention in the book known as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Now, thanks to Hermione Granger’s new translation from the ancient runes, we present this stunning edition with an introduction, notes, and illustrations by J. K. Rowling, and extensive commentary by Albus Dumbledore. Never before have Muggles been privy to these richly imaginative tales: “The Wizard and the Hopping Pot,” “The Fountain of Fair Fortune,” “The Warlock’s Hairy Heart,” “Babbitty Rabbitty and Her Cackling Stump,” and of course, “The Tale of the Three Brothers.” But not only are they the equal of fairy tales we now know and love, reading them gives new insight into the world of Harry Potter.

My Review:

Mrs. J.K. Rowling did a wonderful job on writing this book. Her descriptions in each short story made each one have a personality of their own. They were almost like back stories to the Harry Potter Saga. I really enjoyed reading this book, it made it seem has though the Harry Potter world was still alive.

I liked the moral behind "The Wizard and the Hopping Pot," not being selfish and thinking about others. Like in the movies my favorite story was "The Tale of the Three Brothers." Out of all the stories that one had to be best story I read!

J.K. Rowling is an amazing writer and I hope she never stops writing!!

Review: Alienated by Melissa Landers

Alienated
By: Melissa Landers

Title: Alienated
Author: Melissa Landers
Length: 386 pages
Genre: Sci-fi Romance, Young Adult

Synopsis From Goodreads:

Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.

Handpicked to host the first-ever L'eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she'll have inside information about the mysterious L'eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara's blog following is about to skyrocket.

Still, Cara isn't sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L'eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn't seem more alien. She's certain about one thing though: no human boy is this good-looking.

But when Cara's classmates get swept up by anti-L'eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn't safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara's locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.

Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn't just her only friend; she's fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life-not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.

So it appears I am a huge fan of Young Adult books where extraterristrial life is a key element in the story. First Obsidian now Alienated!! Both books are absolutely amazing!! Romance, drama and witty female characters!!

Okay so I have no idea where to start....this book had so many wonderful moments. First off, the writing was amazing, Melissa Landers wrote a great story and kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was going to happen next. The storyline flowed together perfectly and there was never an instant where I felt bored or ready for the next chapter. This book was good from beginning to the end.

I loved Cara's personality throughout the book, she was a spunky young teenager ready to stand up for what she believes in. She stood by Aelyx from the very beginning even though she wasn't "gung-ho" for the exchange program at the beginning. The way their relationship blossomed was so cute...I can't wait to see where their relationship goes as the story goes on.

The conflict that Melissa developed from the very beginning was amazing! However, I was hoping for a bit more depth into the confict, towards the end I was waiting for an EPIC explosion to the conflict rather than what accurred. I was waiting for a more dramatic longer ending. Even so, the whole story was GREAT!!

I can't wait to get my hands on Invaded to see where the story ends up!! And what happens to Cara on L'heir!! What kind of trouble is this girl going to find herself in and how does Aeylx plan to fix the damage he was done to the exchange program?
