Down The TBR Hole: 2.13.20

Down the TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia at Lost in a Story where we decide whether to keep or remove books on our TBR.
The rules for Down the TBR Hole:
  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Many of the books on my Goodreads TBR have been there for years...many of them are even sitting on my shelf, un-read. This is my first Down the TBR Hole and hopefully it will be a good way to clear out my TBR of books I am no longer interested in.
Beautiful Creatures
By Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
Date Added: May 27th, 2013
Blurb:
Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.
***Even after all these years the premise still draws me in and has me intrigued...many 2020 can be my year to finally read Beautiful Creatures, especially being as I already own the book. :)
Verdict: Keep it
Delirium
By Lauren Oliver
Date Added: May 27th, 2013
Blurb:
In an alternate United States, love has been declared a dangerous disease, and the government forces everyone who reaches eighteen to have a procedure called the Cure. Living with her aunt, uncle, and cousins in Portland, Maine, Lena Haloway is very much looking forward to being cured and living a safe, predictable life. She watched love destroy her mother and isn't about to make the same mistake.
But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena meets enigmatic Alex, a boy from the "Wilds" who lives under the government's radar. What will happen if they do the unthinkable and fall in love?
***I am a real sucker for dystopian novels, and of course this premise still sounds amazing! Ever since meeting Lauren Oliver many years ago I have wanted to read this book, but like many of my books recently it got pushed to the bottom of my pile and forgotten. Maybe now I can finally crack this book open and dive into Lena and Alex's world.
Verdict: Keep it
Dear John
By Nicholas Sparks
Date Added: May 27th, 2013
Blurb:
An angry rebel, John dropped out of school and enlisted in the Army, not knowing what else to do with his life--until he meets the girl of his dreams, Savannah. Their mutual attraction quickly grows into the kind of love that leaves Savannah waiting for John to finish his tour of duty, and John wanting to settle down with the woman who has captured his heart.
But 9/11 changes everything. John feels it is his duty to re-enlist. And sadly, the long separation finds Savannah falling in love with someone else.
Dear John, the letter read... and with those two words, a heart was broken and two lives were changed forever. Returning home, John must come to grips with the fact that Savannah, now married, is still his true love—and face the hardest decision of his life.
***Nicholas Sparks is one of my favorite authors...I honestly cannot believe I haven't read this book yet.
Verdict: Keep it
The Last Song
By Nicholas Sparks
Date Added: May 27th 2013
Blurb:
Seventeen-year-old Veronica 'Ronnie' Miller’s life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Wilmington, North Carolina. Three years later, she remains angry and alienated from her parents, especially her father . . . until her mother decides it would be in everyone’s best interest if she spent the summer in Wilmington with him. Ronnie’s father, a former concert pianist and teacher, is living a quiet life in the beach town, immersed in creating a work of art that will become the centerpiece of a local church.
The tale that unfolds is an unforgettable story about love in its myriad forms - first love, the love between parents and children - that demonstrates, as only a Nicholas Sparks novel can, the many ways that deeply felt relationships can break our hearts . . . and heal them.
***Another Nicholas Sparks book just waiting to be read...even after all these years the premise still has me intrigued.
Verdict: Keep it
The Edge of Never
By: J.A. Redmerski
Date Added: May 27th, 2013
Blurb:
Twenty-year-old Camryn Bennett had always been one to think out-of-the-box, who knew she wanted something more in life than following the same repetitive patterns and growing old with the same repetitive life story. And she thought that her life was going in the right direction until everything fell apart.
Determined not to dwell on the negative and push forward, Camryn is set to move in with her best friend and plans to start a new job. But after an unexpected night at the hottest club in downtown North Carolina, she makes the ultimate decision to leave the only life she’s ever known, far behind.
With a purse, a cell phone and a small bag with a few necessities, Camryn, with absolutely no direction or purpose boards a Greyhound bus alone and sets out to find herself. What she finds is a guy named Andrew Parrish, someone not so very different from her and who harbors his own dark secrets. But Camryn swore never to let down her walls again. And she vowed never to fall in love.
But with Andrew, Camryn finds herself doing a lot of things she never thought she’d do. He shows her what it’s really like to live out-of-the-box and to give in to her deepest, darkest desires. On their sporadic road-trip he becomes the center of her exciting and daring new life, pulling love and lust and emotion out of her in ways she never imagined possible. But will Andrew’s dark secret push them inseparably together, or tear them completely apart?
***I added this book several years back when I was going through my romance phase...nearly every romance premise sounded intriguing and was on its way to my TBR. And I must say even after all this years the premise still sound good.
Verdict: Keep it
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Okay so my first attempt at Down the TBR Hole did not go very well it would seem...not a single book was pulled from the list. But every book in this list is sitting on my bookshelf, so maybe now that light as been shone on these long forgotten books I can get them read during 2020.

What books have you removed from your TBR list recently?
